PIERRE COMPUTER COMPANY is seeking a Systems Engineer.

## OPPORTUNITY

With the emergence of AI and codegen, we're anticipating more code being produced in the next year than in the entire history of computer science before it.

Single vibe coding platforms alone are generating hundreds of thousands of new repositories a day (roughly 3x the number of repos GitHub does in a month). And their customers aren’t developers and aren’t on GitHub.

For foundational models, codegen has become the primary battle ground – openai (w/ codex), anthropic w/ claude code, google w/ gemini, poolside, and now even cursor.

LLMs are actively onboarding the next billion developers, and they aren’t code literate – and they certainly don’t understand git or GitHub. But their tools do.

## WHY DO THEY NEED GIT?

Git itself is uniquely good at collaborative, async code development - with primitives that have been battle tested for over 20 years on some of the largest, most important codebases in existence.

For AI specifically, git offers deterministic, reproducible state, with content-addressed snapshots you can pin in prompts, evals, and rollbacks, as well as familiar multi-player strategies (like branching) for human-agent collaboration and multi-shot UX, incremental writes, and more.

## WHY CODE.STORAGE?

The main issue with Git is that it’s historically difficult to operate at scale. With very few teams having successfully built the necessary systems and expertise (GitHub, GitLab, ??).

Talking to these teams, we keep hearing the same problems…

 - Cobbled-together S3/R2 storage solutions are slow and brittle

 - Existing storage APIs aren’t built for collaborative workflows

 - Teams are duplicating git primitives across Postgres and other datastores, while trying to manage diverging snapshots in S3/R2

 - Setting up and managing GitHub sync flows are complex and time consuming (and that’s just one of several centralized providers… also gitlab, bitbucket, etc.)

 - Rate limits around GitHub plus fear of Microsoft shutting off API access, particularly after re-orging into Microsoft’s AI org.

## WHO IS THE PIERRE COMPUTER COMPANY?

Our team of 11 staff+ ICs brings over 150 years of expertise designing, building, and scaling the largest distributed systems in the world – at Cloudflare, Coinbase, Discord, GitHub, Reddit, Stripe, X, and more.

We have over $20m in funding from Sequoia, CRV, and O1A and a gorgeous office in San Francisco (but are also remote friendly).

## WHAT IS THE ROLE?

We’re in the process of standing up clusters for some of the largest companies in existence. We need help from engineers who can design and operationalize these systems at the highest level.

You should be proficient in Go, Kubernetes, etc. and be familiar with distributed systems and packaging / orchestrating on-prem systems.

You should be self-driven and be able to lead the design and operationalization of these systems with no hand holding.

You should be an expert in your field.
